COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) Compliance:
All of our websites are COPPA compliant, meaning we give notice and process verifiable parental consent before girls share personally identifiable information or engage in the subscription areas of our websites. You can read more about this process in our Privacy Policy.
Daily Monitoring:
NewMoon.com undergoes daily reviews by our adult staff.
Fully Moderated Posting:
While there are many opportunities for girls to post their own work and participate, all posts are moderated rather than automatic. That means it is reviewed and approved by an adult editor before it is posted on the site.
Fully Moderated Chat Room:
Girls love our chat room, and we have gone to great lengths to make it safe. The chat room is only open when an adult New Moon staff member is present. Only members of NewMoon.com can enter the chat room, and all chats are fully moderated. This means every comment is "fetched" by the adult moderator, read, and approved before it is posted in the chat room for all chat participants to see. The adult moderator also has the ability to warn and expel chat participants.
No "Real Life" Identities:
Absolutely no personally identifiable information-no last names, no addresses, no school names, etc.-is permitted inside NewMoon.com. Girls are allowed to give their first name, age and state (if they post work). In their Girl Room, they are able to share additional information such as their likes, dislikes, birthday and dreams, but this information is never connected to personally identifiable information.
Parent-controlled Instant Messaging :
Girl2Girl Talk, New Moon's instant messaging feature, is only available to girls who have received permission from their parents to instant message on New Moon. Parents create a parent account where they can grant or deny their daughter's access to Girl2Girl Talk, review their daughter's friend list, review transcripts of all their daughter's messaging activities, and removes friends from her friends list. Girl2Girl Talk uses advanced filtering technology to help prevent the sharing of profanity, phone numbers, email addresses, and other inappropriate messaging. However, it is up to parents to ensure their child's use of Girl2Girl Talk appropriately balances safety with fun. New Moon Girl Media, Inc. encourages all parents to enable transcripts and maintain close supervision of their child's chat activity. Girls whose parents have not given permission cannot access Girl2Girl Talk or instant message on New Moon.
No Outside Advertising:
New Moon Girls, online and in print, contains no outside advertising.
