It's Inauguration Week!

Hey, girls! It’s Inauguration Week here at New Moon Girls! On January 20, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. It’s the first time an African American has been elected President of the U.S. It’s not just an important day for U.S. girls, though; the U.S. President works with leaders of countries around the world, so it’s an important day for everyone.
But perhaps the most exciting part of Inauguration Week is knowing that two cool, smart, and strong girls will be moving into the White House! So we’ll be featuring YOUR welcome letters to Malia and Sasha Obama in the Spotlight all this week. We aren’t just welcoming them to the White House, though—we’re welcoming them to New Moon Girls, too! (To learn more about Malia and Sasha, check out this cool blog, created by a couple New Moon Girls members!)
When Barack Obama was elected in November, a woman called us to order a gift subscription to New Moon Girls for the Obama girls. She said she wanted the Obama girls to have it because it had helped her own daughters so much. Like all girls on New Moon Girls, the Obama girls will have to get their parents’ permission before they join, and we’ll protect their identities and personal information just as we do for all the girls on the site. Although they haven’t joined us yet, their subscription has started, and they may be checking us out at any time. That’s why we’re sending them a great big WELCOME!, here and in the Spotlight.
Love,
Luna
P.S. You can send YOUR welcome messages to Sasha and Malia but submitting them to the Spotlight all this week. Also, feature your thoughts about the inauguration in the Spotlight, too! Is this the first inauguration you’ve been old enough to remember? How do you feel about Barack Obama’s election? What do you think the next four years will be like? I can’t wait to feature your thoughts!
P.P.S. Are you attending the inauguration? If you are, we’d love it if you covered the event for New Moon Girls!

I'm the Spirit of New Moon! I LOVE hearing what girls have to say in New Moon Girls magazine and on NewMoonGirls.com. I'm excited about the launch of the website because it's a way for even MORE girls to share their voices! You can draw a picture of what you think I look like and submit it to New Moon Girls magazine. Every girl's idea is different, and that's how I like it! You can see one girl's idea of how I look in my avatar.
